Purpose

Objectives

Objetivos

The ASOBAL Legacy League (ALL) emerges as a pioneering initiative in Spain, designed to embed sustainability into handball across economic, social and environmental dimensions. Through an innovative ranking system, ASOBAL aims to build a legacy with its clubs that enhances their influence within the Spanish handball community.

This approach seeks to promote sustainable practices and highlight the uniqueness of the league on the international sporting stage, aiming to drive significant and lasting change both on and off the court.

The ASOBAL handball community

In the ASOBAL Legacy League, all handball stakeholders, from fans and sponsors to the media, play a key role. This project is designed to generate a positive impact on the community, ensuring that all participants, from the clubs to society as a whole, benefit from and contribute to the sustainability legacy that ASOBAL is developing, in order to keep growing as a professional league.

Core Pillars

The ALL is structured around three essential pillars: economic and governance sustainability, social sustainability and environmental sustainability. These pillars form the basis of a comprehensive approach to the initiative. From these core pillars, the different criteria and aspects of the ASOBAL Legacy League are developed and defined, which are explained in detail in the following sections of this page.

Pilares Fundamentales

ASOBAL and the United Nations / Sports For Climate Action

ASOBAL is firmly committed to the United Nations Sports for Climate Action initiative, reaffirming its commitment to global climate action, being one of only 8 sporting entities in Spain to be a member and one of only 2 handball leagues on the planet.

This commitment not only reflects environmental responsibility, but also forges alignment with a global network of sporting organisations working to combat climate change and promote sustainable practices through sport.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

ALL is aligned with the UN SDGs, incorporating specific targets and challenges such as reducing inequality, promoting health and well-being, and adopting strategies to establish partnerships and synergies.

Identity

The identity of the ASOBAL Legacy League (ALL) - where "all" means everything in English - reflects a deep commitment to the comprehensive transformation of handball: innovation, integrity and sustainability are its foundations. And that commitment is the legacy that has already begun to take shape.

This identity reflects how the league not only changes the game within the 40x20 court, but also extends its influence to a parallel competition and initiatives beyond it.

A Progressive System

The ASOBAL Legacy League, reflecting its name, is more than a competition; it is a catalyst for ongoing sustainability. Designed with a progressive system, this league allows clubs to adapt and raise their sustainable practices in a structured way each season.

Starting in the 2024-2025 season and with a development focus through to 2026-2027, this time frame sets out the league's implementation and consolidation phase. From then on, the competition will continue, reinforcing a legacy of innovation and commitment to sustainable practices that continuously evolve to respond to new challenges and opportunities in sport.

Data

The scoring process draws on data gathered from a combination of ASOBAL monitoring, questionnaires, reports and audits.
This rigorous process ensures that all data is accurate and faithfully reflects the clubs' efforts and results in terms of sustainability.
