About us
ASOBAL is the Professional League of Spanish Handball Clubs, a non-profit sporting entity registered in the Register of Sporting Associations of the Spanish Higher Sports Council.
In the current 2026/2027 season of the 37th Liga NEXUS ENERGIA ASOBAL 16 teams take part:

All ASOBAL television rights are assigned to LaLiga, which broadcasts the official competition matches through LaLiga+, Teledeporte and the various regional and local television channels with which it has reached agreements.
ASOBAL History
ASOBAL was founded on 18 May 1984 through a Management Commission, chaired by Mr Jaume Rodríguez (also president of Club Balonmano Granollers).
On 15 June 1984 the 1st Extraordinary General Meeting was held, and the first Board of Directors of ASOBAL was formed, comprising:

On 28 June 2023, the Spanish Higher Sports Council (CSD) ratified the statutes of Liga ASOBAL, authorising its registration as a Professional League in Section I of the State Register of Sporting Entities of the CSD. In this way, the top division of Spanish men's club handball achieved the historic status of Professional, defined on 7 July 2022 by the CSD, placing it on a par with the First and Second Division of men's football, the Liga F women's football and the Liga Endesa men's basketball.
