IRUDEK Bidasoa Irun kicked off its 2026/2027 preseason this Thursday with the team's first training session at Artaleku. The Bidasoa squad trained for the first time under the direction of Álex Mozas, thus beginning a preparation period that will serve to lay the foundations for the new season and performance in the new edition of the Liga NEXUS ENERGÍA ASOBAL.

"This season represents a bit of a cycle change for us, in terms of the players we lose and those we bring in, who, except for Niko, are much younger and will give the team a new cycle. Obviously, we have the ambition, as always, to be as high up as possible," Álex Mozas explained in statements to the official website of the professional competition team, referring to the changes and new signings of the club, Niko Mindegia Elizaga, João Magalhães, Jakub Sladkowski, Miguel Ángel Martín Duque.

“I think it’s a bit of fresh air for the team. Maybe you could talk about a new cycle, with players who have been very important and have left. I believe Niko is coming, who can contribute a lot with his experience, his play, and his quality, in addition to young players who I’m sure come ready to take on the world, to improve. We’re very eager to see how they integrate into the team, how they adapt, and I’m sure it will go well,” said captain Gorka Nieto, a leading figure and one of the great attractions of the ASOBAL circuit.

Extended preseason to prepare for ASOBAL debut

The Bidasoa team is now focused on fine-tuning their fitness and recovering tactical mechanisms during more than a week of work at Artaleku, with the debut in Liga NEXUS ENERGÍA ASOBAL on the horizon. After this first preseason phase, IRUDEK Bidasoa Irun will play its first summer friendly on August 8 in Santander against Blendio Sinfín. They will participate as hosts in the I Lurraldea Gara International Handball Tournament, which will be held on August 14 and 15 and will also feature Limoges Handball, Billère Handball Pau Pyrénées, and USAM Nîmes Gard.

Álex Mozas’ charges will play three more matches before the first round of the Liga NEXUS ENERGÍA ASOBAL 26/27. They will face Swiss Wacker Thun on August 20 in Doneztebe, Blue Falcon at Artaleku with the support of their fans, and Anaitasuna in Tolosa. This will complete a demanding preseason before playing the first round of the Liga NEXUS ENERGÍA ASOBAL at home against Viveros Herol BM. Nava (September 12/13).
