Álvaro Martínez closes the Liga NEXUS ENERGÍA ASOBAL as the best pivot of the 2025/2026 season and a member of the 'All Star ASOBAL' after winning the vote for the professional competition's sports excellence awards, divided between the popular phase (40%), the decision of the leaders, coaches, and captains of the professional competition teams (40%), and the specialized press (20%). The Dicorpebal Logroño La Rioja player took the final victory with 30.13% of the votes, ahead of Artur Parera (Bada Huesca, with 24.62%) and Iván Montoya (HORNEO BM. Alicante, with 21.92%), in the closest candidacy to date.

The pivot from Valladolid has been rewarded for his great season as the offensive leader of Dicorpebal Logroño La Rioja, carrying the weight of the scoring department from the 6-meter line, showing great game reading, positioning, and resources to find the way to the goal. His impact under the orders of Miguel Ángel Velasco, in his first season at the Palacio de los Deportes de la Rioja, has been resounding, being key in achieving the runner-up position in the Liga NEXUS ENERGÍA ASOBAL.

Álvaro Martínez has taken a firm step in his ability to be decisive and lead a professional competition project. Candidate for the Nexus Energía MVP of October, Martínez has been the top scorer of the Riojan team and the fourth highest scorer in the ASOBAL circuit with 137 goals and 79% effectiveness, the best stats among the trio of pivots vying to enter this season's 'All Star ASOBAL'. He has been 'MVP of the matchday' twice (J5 and J28), scoring 10 goals from 11 shots on both occasions, against Viveros Herol BM. Nava and Recoletas At. Valladolid, respectively.

His capacity for growth and to carry the weight of the matches from the always difficult pivot position has led him to debut with the senior Spanish national team. Another recognition of his form amid the equality and maximum competitiveness that defines the current Liga NEXUS ENERGÍA ASOBAL. Álvaro Martínez, thus, is the eighth member of this campaign's ideal team in the elite of Spanish men's handball, sharing the lineup with Xoan Ledo (best goalkeeper, Dicorpebal Logroño La Rioja), Ludovic Fàbregas (best defender, Barça), Jakub Prokop (best left back, Bathco BM. Torrelavega), Marcos Fis (best right back, Fraikin BM. Granollers), Álvaro Preciado (best center back, Dicorpebal Logroño La Rioja), Dani Fernández (best left wing, Barça), and Gonzalo Pérez Arce (best right wing, ABANCA Ademar León).
